Do monsters really exist?
In the previous blog, we discussed the definition of yokai.
I touched on it,
This time we will change the cut.
A child asks a simple question
Do monsters really exist?Against
Let's dive deep.
As I mentioned last time,
When you encounter a yokai or a phenomenon occurs
It is an integrated category of things (phenomena) and objects (existences) that we find mysterious.
This leaves children confused.
For children, the definition of a monster doesn't really matter.
Do Jibanyan and Eyeball Dad really exist?
That is what is important.
The answer that the parent gives at that time is important...
If we approach this from a physical and scientific perspective, we have to be quite negative.
On the other hand, a psychological approach would be like religion or spirituality.
That would be too much of a story. Whether or not yokai really exist is a matter of debate.
It seems like a simple question but it's actually very difficult to answer.
In response to my recent blog post
Can things that have trademarks or copyrights be considered yokai? That
As you asked, the very definition of what a yokai is is vague.
That's just as vague as UMA or ghosts or something like that, if not more so...
Let me give you an example.
As you all know,Doraemon"teeth
It doesn't really exist, does it?
However, it is in the anime,
The flesh-and-blood Doraemon wearing a costume
It's very popular with children. Few children would imagine Nakanohito.
So,It exists for children.
I think it's fair to say that.
When you say this
Believe it or not, it's up to youSomething like that
The conclusion may seem unsatisfying to some people.
But if you've reached this conclusion...
Let's go a little further.
Now let me talk about myself.
Children believe in the existence of monsters as much as they genuinely believe in Santa Claus.
I'm 34 years old and a full-fledged old man, but I'd like to say this loud and clear.
There are monsters!
Here I will outline the reasons why I think so.
The number is amazing
First, let’s look at the number of monsters.
- Number of monsters:1592Types (Japanese Yokai Encyclopedia)
- Pokemon: 719 types (according to Wiki)
- Original Yo-kai Watch: 223 types (according to Wiki)
It's overwhelming.
Because what I'm comparing it to is the world of games and anime.
It may not be a good comparison, but
There are twice as many different characters as humans have invented and commercially produced.
There are events that people have actually seen or heard about.
I think it's because there were so many of them.
Regional characteristics
Some yokai have almost the same characteristics and appearances, but they differ depending on the region.
The name may change.
That means that similar monsters existed in different places at the same time.
It's safe to say that there is a high possibility.
The most notable of these is the kappa, of which there are over 20 different types and each has a different name.
And each one is linked to folk tales and legends.
Sometimes the legends themselves are incorporated into place names and customs.
The killing stone in Nasu still emits miasma (sulfur gas).
I'm spitting it out,
Gennou (meaning a hammer-wielder)
There are even cases where the names of tools come from yokai legends.
Even if it's a fabrication, it's a pretty accurate and solid story.
Do you want to believe that ghosts exist?
They say if you wish for something, it will come true, and that may actually be true.
Wishing every day is followed by action.
They believed in the existence of monsters and didn't waste things.
Knowing your behavior and discipline
By wishing for this every day, the youkai will
Maybe it will bestow mysterious powers.
It's not just a "maybe" but something I've realized recently.
In that sense, to me, monsters are
It is truly a lifestyle and its existence cannot be denied.
Finally, let me summarize.
Do monsters really exist?
There is one thing I would like to tell you in response to this simple question.
Do you want to believe that monsters exist?
That is what it means.
By learning more about yokai, you will also learn about the traditional Japanese lifestyle.
It helps you see things clearly, and is also full of tips for living a relaxed and easy-going life.
Yokai are a way to think about your lifestyle and learn how to live as a Japanese person.
I think that's the best element.
When I wake up in the morning and listen to the birds singing,
To notice the different birds singing
I spend my time thinking that maybe there are monsters out there.
You will begin to sense the presence of ghosts all around.
Why is that? Something seems weird?
If you think so, it might be the work of a monster!
The usual scenery looks different.
