Call for artists to exhibit "Contemporary Yokai Art & Yokai Masks" (20 applicants total)

■Exhibition overview

The Edogawa Yokai Exhibition - Legends of 100 Time-Space Yokai - will be held from Friday, November 1st to Sunday, November 30th, 2025, and will feature artwork and yokai masks by artists who portray yokai from a modern perspective.
This exhibition will be accepting applications from the public for the following two categories, with 10 artists in each category (20 artists in total).

■Recruitment department

🖼 Contemporary Yokai Art Category (10 people)

  • Size: A1 (594 x 841 mm) flat work
  • Expression: Painting/illustration/graphics etc.
  • Specifications: Free vertical and horizontal orientation. Framed or panel mounted recommended.

👹 Yokai Mask Division (10 winners)

  • Contents: Original masks with a yokai theme
  • Condition: Size that can actually be worn by a person
  • Material/Technique: Free (emphasis on three-dimensional effect and creativity)
  • Display: Wall hanging or mannequin display (coordinated by management)

■Event Information

  • Dates:Friday, November 1, 2025 - Sunday, November 30, 2025
  • Time: 10:00-18:00 (may end early on the last day)
  • venue:Shinkawa Sakurakan(7-15-12 Funabori, Edogawa-ku, Tokyo)
  • Nearest station: Funabori Station (Toei Shinjuku Line) - 15 minutes on foot
  • Admission fee: 500 yen for adults, 300 yen for elementary school students and younger, free for children under 2 years old
  • Organizer: Shinkawa Sakurakan Designated Manager Rinrei Service Co., Ltd.
  • Cooperation: Yokai Art Museum (Shodoshima)
  • Management: Yokaiya LLC

■ Eligibility

  • An artist who expresses the theme of yokai from a unique perspective
  • Works must be available for loan and display during the exhibition period.
  • Those who can participate in on-site loading and unloading (shipping available for those far away)

■How to apply

Please submit the following information via the application form:

  1. Name (author name)
  2. Contact information (email address/phone number)
  3. Application category (① Contemporary art or ② Yokai mask)
  4. Images of exhibited works (※Subject to review. Required)
  5. Concept of the work (brief explanation and creative intent)

📷 It is mandatory to submit images of works to be exhibited. Photos will be judged.

■Application deadline

Until 23:59 on Sunday, October 19, 2025

■ Selection and notification of results

  • Selection will be made based on the submitted images.
    　Notification will be sent by email on Monday, October 20, 2025I will
  • The same email will also include information on how to bring in and return items, as well as details about the exhibit.
  • Individual comments will not be given to those who are not selected.

■Exhibition fee

3,000 yen (tax included) per person

  • *The funds will be used for exhibition management, public relations materials production, and venue equipment maintenance.
  • *If you need to return the item, you will be required to pay the return shipping costs and COD fees (details will be provided after the selection process).
  • Those who pass the screening will be paid by bank transfer at a later date. The applicant will be responsible for the bank transfer fee.

Notes

  • There are no participation or registration fees other than the exhibition fee.
  • The exhibited works may be featured on social media and in public relations media.
