The legend of Ogushinomikoto of Izu Oshima
A story from long ago on Izu Oshima.
It seems that the girls who lived on Izu Oshima were suffering from a certain problem.
The problem was that the salty sea air damaged their hair, making it fall apart. The girls on the island were always lamenting that there was something they could do about it.
One day, when one of the girls washed her hair with oil extracted from camellia flowers blooming on Oshima, she was surprised to see that her damaged hair instantly became smooth and silky. She thought that this must be the work of God. She wanted to tell this story to other girls, but at that time, there were hardly any camellias growing on Oshima.
So the girl prayed to the god for three days and three nights. On the third night, her devoted prayers were answered, as the camellia god really did appear from heaven.

and
"I am Ogusino-mikoto, my daughter. I will grant your wish. In return, may I use your beautiful hair as a vessel?"
The girl immediately cut off her hair and offered it to the goddess with joy. The goddess smiled and raised her hands up to the sky.
Then camellias began to bloom all over the island, and the girls on the island were delighted. When they used the camellias to thin their hair, their hair instantly became smooth, silky, and beautiful.
Since then, Izu Oshima has become an island where camellias bloom in abundance every year.
A story about Ogusino-mikoto, the camellia god.
Happily ever after.
