With love from the Yuki-onna of Nakanosawa

Hello to everyone browsing the Yokai Channel. My name is Asama Chiyo. I usually work as an office worker, an actor, and do a wide range of work from writing and directing to fortune telling. If you ask me who I am, I'm nothing, just a busy person, but sometimes I call myself a Yuki-onna.

Last year in 2018, I spent New Year's Eve at Nakanosawa Onsen in Fukushima Prefecture as Oyuki, the eldest of the three Yuki-onna sisters, so I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you about Yuki-onna.

There are accounts of people seeing a Yuki-onna at the end of the Muromachi period, so Yuki-onna must have already existed during that time. What they have in common is that they dress in white robes, suck out men's sperm, and then kill them in the end... which is why they are often described as terrifying yet beautiful beings.

However, there are also stories of Yuki-onna being asked to hold a child, and the child gradually becomes heavier, causing the person holding it to be buried under the snow and freeze to death... so there may be various Yuki-onna depending on the region. However, there are also stories that if you ask this Yuki-onna to hold a child and manage to escape the monster, she will give you treasure, or the person holding it will gain superhuman strength... so if you are proud of your strength, why not dare to challenge the monster... Is the treasure gold, silver, or something that the person really wants...?

By the way, the three Yuki-onna sisters freeze people to death... but instead of letting passersby hold their children, they happily prayed for snow at Nakanosawa Onsen. The three sisters are very sociable, so they are working hard to be useful to the community as Yuki-onna. Hehehe.
