I am Asama Chiyo. I am Oyuki, the Snow Woman of Nakanosawa Onsen.
Since it's the rainy season, I'd like to talk about rain women.
It feels a bit surreal for me, a snow woman, to be talking about a rain woman...

Rain women are sometimes detested,
When the sun shines for too long, farmers are pleased like gods.
Rain is actually that important.
It provides nutrients to humans, animals and plants.

What is the origin of the rain woman?
There is apparently a painting titled "Rain Woman" in Toriyama Sekien's collection of monster illustrations, "Konjaku Hyakki Shui," but there is no description of the woman being a monster associated with rain.
Also, a woman whose newborn baby was spirited away on a rainy day,
There is a theory that she became an "rain woman."

Is it a monster or a god?
However, it is certain that, like yokai, they are a presence that is close to humans.

There are people like this.
Whenever I make a schedule, it always rains...
It may be called a superstition, but
As humans, we all have some kind of religious faith in nature.
I'm sure rain women and rain men have a connection to water...
