Aizu Village Yokai Village

The leaves are turning red and the season for monsters is just around the corner

October was dominated by Halloween, and now it's November already. Whether you had fun or just chilled out at home, I'm sure many of you have suddenly felt the footsteps of the end of the year approaching in the past week.

Now, just after Halloween, monsters gathered in large numbers in Aizumura, the Village of Prayer in Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture, with the aim of scaring people.
On Sunday, November 3, 2019, at the base of the Great Kannon, an atmosphere every bit as eerie and exciting as Halloween unfolded.
This time, we will show you how the yokai move and what happens to the humans who get mixed up among them.

What is Aizumura?

This stage "Aizu Village, the Village of Prayer" covers an area of an astounding 20,000 tsubo (193,000 m2) and is filled with nature that shows different faces with each season.
There are eight power spots scattered throughout the park, including the Aizu Jiboshi Daikannon Statue, and the Ryujin Pond, with its vermilion bridge spanning it, boasts an outstanding location.
It would take more than half a day to explore the whole park, so a sightseeing car is the most convenient way to get around the park.
It seems that portrait and cosplay photography is also possible, so it's also recommended for those who want to do location photography in Tohoku!

It seems that some of the monsters had been wandering around since a little early in the morning. The people who encountered them must have been very surprised.

The crimson-colored Great Kannon

Aizumura normally closes at 5pm in November, but on this day things were a little different.
The Great Kannon Bodhisattva is dyed crimson red, and the monsters are preparing to roam.
On this day only, admission was possible from the evening onwards.
There are few lights in Aizu Village at night, and some people may be surprised by the atmosphere, which is different from the Aizu Village they are used to seeing.

At the reception, you will receive a paper lantern according to the level of fear: green for mildly scary, yellow for normal, red for extremely scary. Use the lantern and the lights along the way as guides, and watch your step as you make your way.

Introducing human reactions

It is difficult to introduce the whole picture of the Yokai Village, so instead we will introduce some of the reactions of the people who visited on the day.

Also, it seems that some humans took photos of parts of the Yokai Village. Thank you very much!

Introducing the monsters that lurked in the darkness

We'd like to introduce you to the monsters hiding in Yokai Village.
Were you able to meet everyone? Anyone who made it through this swarm of monsters safely must be extremely lucky.

Bisque doll

An abandoned old doll is waiting forever for its owner. Just be careful not to get caught up in it.

Blue Demon

Apparently, a blue monster appears near the temple. If you hear the sound of a bell, walk quietly to avoid being spotted.

Cat Possession

Did you hear a cute cat meow? If you're gentle, it should be fine.

Biwa master

The mysterious sound of a biwa can be heard from the hall. The sound seems to wake up sleeping plants.

Fox-sending

The talisman you obtain by following the guidance becomes the key to escaping from the monster village.

Eli Fox

The gentle man who appears between the strange happenings may be a moment of respite. Just be careful not to get tricked.

Kiyohime

The sound of her feet clattering will make you think that a beautiful woman in high heels has arrived. Don't stop and get swallowed whole.

girl spider

Is the spider's thread a sign of salvation from hell, or a harbinger of a new disaster?

Fox warrior

Would that armor still be able to claim its name after hundreds of years? The fox warrior is still in the middle of a battle.

Ushioni

Be careful if you sense a malicious breath from the edge of the pool. Be good or you might get eaten...

Monster raccoon dog

The raccoon thought he was disguised with leaves, but perhaps he couldn't hide his true self in this atmosphere. Is what you are seeing really the truth?

Black Demon

Are you mustering up your courage? Are you walking with all your might? The Black Demon is watching you from the darkness...

Misaki Fox

If Misaki appears, it's a sign that something is about to happen. Be careful until the very end.

Earthly desires

The final obstacle that disturbs you and stops you from moving forward is something you have in your hand!

Vermilion tray

A monster who rules over Aizu. He seems to have some connections in the human world as well. He looks forward to drinking alcohol after surprising humans.

Wasn't that the only one? I don't know...

We look forward to your visit to Yokai Village.

Aizu Village is a wonderful place filled with various power spots and nature.
The fact that we were able to have the yokai parade through Aizu Village for the first time was entirely thanks to the cooperation of everyone involved.
If you are reading this article, we hope you will visit us again next time.
I'm sure you'll have a wonderful encounter.

I like Halloween and festivals. I hate haunted houses. In addition to being a writer for the web, I also do modeling. Sometimes I dress up in strange clothes and attend events. At Yokai Village, I played a Western bisque doll. (The person inside is most afraid of doll-based horror.)
