[2019] Yokai Yashiki Activities

Looking back at the Yokai Yashiki activities in 2019

There are only a few days left in 2019. This year is a memorable one as it marked the change of the era name from "Heisei" to "Reiwa". While there were remarkable achievements in fields such as sports and chemistry, it was also a year of great upheaval both at home and abroad, including the consumption tax increase, the burning of Shuri Castle, and a direct hit from a typhoon.

The Yokai Yashiki version of "Kanji of the Year" is "En"

Well, the 2019 Yokai Yashiki was expressed in one kanji character, in the style of the Kanji of the Year, which was "En" (fate). The fate that was created as a result of the town revitalization activities on New Year's Eve last year was something that we focused on deepening and thickening this year.

I would like to take a look back at Yokai Yashiki's activities in 2019.

[January 1st] Yokai New Year's Eve

Nakanosawa Onsen in Fukushima Prefecture has been lacking in snow due to the warm winter. Three Yuki-Onna (Snow Women) held a snow-praying ceremony to welcome the new year. They started 2019 by drinking sacred sake and warming themselves by a bonfire at the shrine on the hill.

[June 30th] Hagyutto Festival

The Hagyutto Festival was held under the theme of "A festival for raising children while learning about Edogawa Ward." It was a Yokai festival with shops, picture-story shows, workshops, and more.

[July 20th] Yokai Beer Garden

At the Nakanosawa Onsen Festival in Nakanosawa Onsen, Shimane Prefecture, a "Yokai Beer Garden" was held, where yokai set up stalls and served drinks and food.

[August 10th] Izu Oshima Yokai Summer Vacation

Yokai participated in the summer festival held on Izu Oshima!

[November 3] Yokai Village

A monster has taken over Aizu Village in Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture, shocking visitors.

[November 16th] Design Festa: The Inaba Biology Strange Incident

"The Mysterious Inaba Incident" was unveiled on stage at the Design Festa held at Tokyo Big Sight.

[December 31st] Yokai New Year's Eve (planned)

Well, this year, the Yuki-onna will be praying for snow again! Apparently, this year there will be more people and things to see...? Meet at the Nakanosawa Onsen Information Center in Fukushima Prefecture at 11pm tonight! After praying, warm up your body at Nakanosawa Onsen!

[February 22] Echoes

At the Japanese costume event "Kyokusha" held at the Tokyo Otomi Theater in Futako Tamagawa, "Inabimono Kaihen" will be re-staged in a re-arranged version! If you missed the Design Festa, this is your chance! We will let you know as soon as we have more information♪

Yokai will also be participating in "Hagyutto JAM" held at Komatsugawa Sakura Hall in Edogawa Ward! There will be lots of singing, dancing, and exhibits to liven things up!
