  4. What is Kamehime?

What is Kamehime?

It's been a while, everyone. It's Chiyo.
It's been quite a while since the first Yuki-onna procession, but things are finally settling down.
I hope to meet new people somewhere this year.
It's been getting hotter recently, so as a Yuki-onna who lives in human disguise, I've been... every day... oops...

So, what kind of princess is Kamehime? What kind of monster is she?
As the title suggests, before the Kamehime Contest, I would like to briefly introduce what Kamehime is.

What is Kamehime?
This is a monster that is said to have resided in Inawashiro Castle (Kamega Castle) in Inawashiro Town, Fukushima Prefecture.
She is said to be the younger sister of Princess Nagabe (a monster) who lived in hiding in Himeji Castle.
They are sister monsters! But why Inawashiro Castle and Himeji Castle? I'd like to find out.
In Izumi Kyoka's play "Tenshu Monogatari," there is a scene in which a man goes to visit Princess Tomi (Osakabehime) with a man's severed head, and the two are portrayed as a very loving sister relationship.
*The Tale of the Castle Tower is sometimes performed as a Kabuki play...It unfolds a truly beautiful world, so I hope the day will come when it will be performed again.
By the way, it is sometimes shown at Cinema Kabuki, so if you're interested, be sure to check it out.

Kamehime is said to have first appeared in a collection of ghost stories called "Robachawa" from the Edo period.
The story goes that Princess Kamehime curses and kills the Inawashiro Castle governor, Horibe Shuzen, who does not greet her.
The important character, Princess Kamehime, only appears by name, and her appearance is shrouded in mystery.

So, what kind of monster was Princess Turtle?
It's hard to imagine anything just by digging a little deeper.
I hope that all participants in the Turtle Princess Contest will find their own Turtle Princess.
Since Kamehime is a monster, there may not be a correct appearance.
Each turtle princess created by the participants in this contest is sure to be the correct answer.

Following on from Kamehime, next time I would like to write about Nagakabehime.
See you all again...!
